We love this question! The idea came from one of our co-founders, Justin, who was inspired by the periodic table of elements. Specifically the symbol for iron, which is Fe. As you know, when you’re lifting weights, you’re “pumping iron.” So, Fe became Effie (see what we did there?). A name with a slightly nerdy origin story transformed into one that’s effortlessly chic. Trendy, yet unpretentious. You know, the type of person you’d want to invite over to your house and workout with.

Effie products are designed and assembled in Michigan, with parts sourced from local suppliers. Specifically, our team is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan – a city that’s not only our home, but also happens to be a hub for some of the world’s most renowned furniture manufacturers. As a team, we’ve learned a lot about design and manufacturing from the incredibly talented individuals in our community. And it’s through this collective knowledge and expertise that we came up with the idea for a whole new category of products – home fitness furniture. We’re proud to support our local community and to bring the very best in design and manufacturing to our customers.

We won’t stand on a pedestal and tell you we’ve designed products that are 100% sustainable, but we can tell you we’re trying and we’ll never stop improving. We use environmentally conscious practices and materials whenever and wherever we can, and always choose manufacturing partners that do the same. Our dumbbells are made from 100% recycled gray iron, which comes from recycled brake rotors, and are wrapped with a soft silicone rubber band. The handles are made of beautiful hickory hardwood, which not only looks great but is also durable and long-lasting. And let’s not forget about the Wave Racks – those bad boys are built from plain carbon steel, making them as sturdy as they are sleek.
